Jolyon Green was a black belt in Ecky Thump by the time he was 6. Emboldened by this ancient martial art, he joined a travelling circus as seat-wiper for the trapeze artistes. He travelled the length and breadth of Europe, even taking in Cleckheaton, Giggleswick and Eggborough, before finally settling down in a two-up, down-and-out in Oldham. In 1923, he discovered the Haçienda and from that moment on began playing Chris Rea records religiously. He lives in a small cottage on the outskirts of Olympia with a statue of Wang Chung on his mantelpiece.
